The Role of the Governing Body

About the Governing Body

The Governing Body of Pipworth Community Primary School plays an important role in supporting the school and helping it to achieve the best possible outcomes for all pupils.

Governors are volunteers from a range of professional backgrounds who work closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team to provide strategic leadership, support and challenge.

Governors act as a “critical friend”, ensuring that the school is continually improving while supporting leaders in delivering high-quality education.

The full Governing Body meets three times each year, once per term.

Strategic Responsibilities

The Governing Body focuses on the strategic direction of the school, rather than the day-to-day management.

Its core functions are to ensure:

·  The vision, values and ethos of the school are clearly defined and promoted

·  The Headteacher is held accountable for the educational performance of the school

·  The school’s finances are managed effectively and responsibly

Governors work with school leaders to review performance, monitor progress and ensure that pupils receive a high-quality education in a safe and supportive environment.

Governor Conduct and Accountability

Governors operate in accordance with The School Governance (Roles, Procedures and Allowances) (England) Regulations 2013.

Governors must:

·  Act with integrity, objectivity and honesty

·  Always work in the best interests of the school and its pupils

·  Be open and transparent about decisions and actions taken

·  Be prepared to explain and justify decisions where appropriate

Safeguarding

The Governing Body has statutory responsibility for safeguarding oversight within the school.

Governors ensure that:

·  Safeguarding policies are in place, reviewed and effective

·  Appropriate procedures are followed to keep children safe

·  Safeguarding arrangements are regularly monitored and evaluated

Safeguarding remains a key priority in all governance work.
